Landell Flutes is a family business, the continuation of a 30-year tradition of building fine instruments in precious metals in the best traditional style, aided by the most innovative technology.
Professionals around the world appreciate Landell flutes for their extraordinary combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern precision. Landell Flutes is also known for powerful and dynamic head joints, professional repair service, and internationally renowned summer training seminars and distance-learning workshops, which attract the best and brightest in the fields of flutemaking and repair from around the globe.

In an age where modern manufacturing technology has long since sidestepped the traditional handicraft arts valued in times past, we are concerned with imparting an individual soul into each of our flutes and head joints. Nothing in our line of products is noticeably more expensive than comparable instruments from popular big-name brands; by utilizing a a low-overhead, handwork-intensive business model, we provide great value for the discerning flutist looking for a traditionally crafted instrument from an established source.

While Vermont is not exactly the crossroads of America - a good reason to live here - flutists are always welcome to visit our shop in Richmond anytime. We maintain an unusually low inventory, but we also provide global service to flutists who cannot visit but need flutes or head joints shipped for trial.

Jonathon A. Landell Sr. is a practicing flutist and graduate of New England Conservatory, where he studied under James Pappoutsakis. He has played in venues around the world, built flutes and head joints for some of the world's foremost flutists, and continues to teach and perform with his chamber music group, Joyful Noise. Married to Marcie Landell in 1978, they have raised five healthy and talented children together, and their home is neatly attached to the workshop.

Jonathon Landell Jr. (known as "Jon Jr") is a graduate of Vermont Technical College as an Associate in Architecture. After a childhood in the workshop and several more years of bumming around the country pleasing his fancy, he studied flute making full-time from 2003 - '06. Then he took a job with a company in Virginia designing roof trusses. He recently married Witney Acton, and they live happily together in Abbingdon.
